The Seven Deadly Sins Of Web Design

Unreadable Text

If the user has to squint to read your text, they're likely to leave.

Flash Intro Homepage

There is certainly nothing wrong with a little Flash to liven up your site, but a Flash intro is the antithesis of what Flash should be. They're slow-loading, meaningless and impressive to almost no one. Bear this in mind: of the top 100 sites on the internet, none of them have a flash intro.

Insane Clutter

I've long been of the opinion that there's nothing wrong with a site that puts all of it's space to use, but many denizens of the web take this philosophy to a psychotic degree. Case in point, yokeup.net. Yokeup.net

Navigational Hazards

Abandon hope all ye who enter here! A website, if nothing else, should have a comprehensible navigational structure that is consistant from page to page. For a great example of what not to do, check out gsjettech.com.

I hope you like pressing the back button, because once you click on any one of the hideously ugly links you will be taken to a page with no links at all that looks nothing like the page you came from, which brings us to sin number 5.

Inconsistant Layout

It's hard enough making one layout look good, but some people, for reasons that will never be understood, have different layouts from one page to the next. Both yokeup.net and gsjettech.com are offenders in this category. Outright Corniness

Sometimes there's no one thing that you can point to that makes a website bad, but when you find yourself even considering the use of animated .gifs and you have no structure to speak of, it might be time to stop what your doing and come back at the problem fresh. For an example of a truly cringe-worthy abomination, check out wizzardstattoo.com.

Low Quality Images With No Color Scheme

Okay, so "Low Quality Images" and "No Color Scheme" are two different things. You got me there, and either of them alone would be enough to ruin an otherwise well-made site--but when they get together, watch out! Take a visit to videosoniclab.com . . . if you dare.
